Elevator Pitch Guidelines
6/14/2007
Your
message is much more likely to be heard if you pay attention to the following guidelines.
1.
Limit the Length
An effective Elevator Pitch is between 15 second and 2 minutes.
2. Limit the Words
Given that most people can comfortably speak at 125 words per
minute, an effective Elevator Pitch should contain no more than 250
words.
3. Assume No Prior Knowledge
When creating and developing an Elevator Pitch, it is safest to
assume that the audience has no knowledge of your subject.
4. Start With a Summary Sentence
Given that the audience is unlikely to have any prior knowledge of
your subject, an effective Elevator Pitch should start off with a
Summary Sentence; a 20 or 30-word description of what you are selling.
5. Speak English
Your Elevator Pitch should only contain words that everyone is
familiar with, not words that are only used in a particular field.
6. Hold the Acronyms
You should pay particular attention to ensuring that your Elevator
Pitch does not contain any acronyms, because the audience is unlikely to
know what they stand for.
